The red panda is found throughout the temperate forests of the Himalayas from Nepal all the way to western Ynnan and Sichuan in China.  In the past they were classified as either highly-modified bears or raccoons, but are currently placed in their own family (the Ailuridae), which is closely related to both raccoons and mustelids (weasels, skunks, badgers, otters and wolverines).

The red panda's diet consists primarily of bamboo leaves, though it will often supplement this with berries, eggs and other plant leaves.
